My Prerogative

Monday, January 29, 2007

There are often mornings where I wake up and as I stare back at my reflection in the mirror while I think about some issues and questions...

I've received many comments about my hair, mostly negative but somehow I was never majorly affected by them.
Why should I let someone else let me decide what makes me happy?
Why should I let them tell me what to do?

sure, maybe the haircut isn't suitable, but I'm happy with it, so, scram! :x

and then, this was a harmless random comment but whilst its context lie within Music, I thought it was quite a redundant comment.

Cat, Cel and me were K-ing about two weeks ago and we came across this duet sung around...early 90's(?) by GiGi Leung and Gu Ju Ji, isit?
and I had never come across that song.
and they were very generous with their reactions lol.

what's up with that reaction?

to think people always ask me to relax when I have to deal with such big reactions for such trivial matters.

Music is a wide subject, and when it comes to songs, it's even broader. There are millions of songs created each year and moreover, I only truly got immersed in the mandarin music scene in the last 2 years.

I consider this quite a feat to be able to host a chinese radio show despite my "late entry" in this mandopop scene.
Granted, I have been exposed to chinese music at a young age, but perhaps it didn't appeal to me, thus it took a total of...15 years ever since I was exposed to mandarin music to get me to finally LOVE it.
and...I used to listen to Classical Instrumentals. honest! 92.4fm yeah.

pardon my digression. I was mildly offended when they commented Sonia may even know the song and yet how could I not know?
No offense to Sonia AT ALL ok. But I just thought, how can you compare a person's knowledge of songs to another's and in this obvious comparison, it is a telling sign that I'm not up-to-date enough?

Well, may I remind you, that song is after all, from the 90's.

go ahead and bluntly comment I'm an '87 baby. c'mon. 2-3 yrs is not enough to set a major mandarin era spinning madly to make someone born later get disconnected that far.

Later, when Catherine did not know a song which I was singing [qian nian zhi lian] by F.I.R., Cel was also rather shocked she didn't know that hit song. Perhaps it would have been a chance for me to shoot back. Besides, this song was rather recent and was a no 1 track released by them for that album. There was NO WAY to miss that song if you're a mandopop fan. BUT, I kept quiet.
There is no point in getting shocked; perhaps she just wasn't into F.I.R. as much as the rest of us?

I'm not directing this post at anyone. I'm just indignated that such comments (with relations to this incident or not) still exist although the basis for arguments like this is often non-existent to begin with.
